Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure – Walkthrough (360/PS3/PC/Wii)

A guide for the console version of Activision’s 2011 spin-off to the Spyro the Dragon series, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure by resident Skylanders owner, Owen
Nagivation:

Introduction

Welcome to the magical world of Skylands. You are now an elite Portal Master with the power to controls the Portal of Power and bring the mighty Skylanders to life. Together, your mission is to save Skylands from the evil darkness that has taken over.

Portal of Power

Setup

Before you begin Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, your Portal of Power must be connected to your games console. The PS3 and Wii version of the game includes a wireless Portal of Power that requires 3 AAA batteries and includes a small USB adapter that must be removed from battery compartment. Whilst the system is turned on, it is required that you first sync the Portal to your wireless receiver. To do this, turn the Portal of Power on by holding down the button on it’s side. The LED will blink and the portal itself will change between colours. Once you have done that, press the small ‘Sync’ button inside the battery compartment. The LED on the side of the portal when then blink rapidly. Whilst this is blinking, press the button on the wireless receiver whilst the console is turned on. The Xbox 360 and PC version of the game includes a wired Portal of Power, which is to be plugged into an available USB port on the system.

The PS3, PC and Wii version’s of the Portal of Power are interchangeable, meaning they work on each others systems, but not the 3DS version and Xbox 360 version. However, the 3DS version does work on all systems besides the Xbox 360 version. The Xbox 360 Portal of Power only works on that console. All versions of the Portal of Power work on the online game; Skylanders: Universe.

Toy Placement

You can place up to 3 toys on the Portal of Power at one time. This includes 2 playable Skylanders (for 2 player mode only) and 1 magic item or 1 location piece (sold in Adventure Packs).

Toys and Figures

Skylanders

In total, there are 32 Skylanders to collect. Skylanders are bought separately from the game and placed on the Portal of Power to unlock that character whilst playing the game. Each character belongs to one of eight elements, these being Magic, Earth, Water, Fire, Tech, Undead, Air and Life. Each character will save on them their health, experience level, upgrades, nickname, hat and ownership.

Location Items

Location items are figures included in Adventure Packs (sold separately). When placed on the portal whilst you are in the Ruins, these items will permanently unlock a new level for Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. When placed on the portal during any other level of the game, they will deal a large amount of damage (most likely killing) all enemies around the player. The location items avalible for purchase are:
  • Empire of Ice
  • Pirate Seas
  • Darklight Crypt
  • Dragon’s Peak

Magic Items

Magic items are figures included in Adventure Packs (sold separately). These items can be used once per chapter and will give the player an item or ability for the rest of the chapter. This item must remain on the portal for as long as the player wishes to use it. The magic items available for purchase are:
  • Sky-Iron Sheild – This item will increase the defense of your Skylander(s)
  • Anvil Rain – Causes Anvil’s to rain for a short time
  • Ghost Pirate Swords – This item spawns 2 swords that will attack enemies
  • Hidden Treasure – This item will locate extra treasure chests in a chapter
  • Healing Elixir - Restores the health of your Skylander(s) at a rate of 30 HP per second
  • Time Twist Hourglass – Slows time for everything except your Skylander(s)
  • Sparx the Dragonfly – This item will spawn a Dragonfly that will attack enemies and destroy breakable objects. For as long as Sparx the Dragonfly is active, enemies that die will become butterflies that you can eat to restore health.
  • Winged Boots – This item will increase the speed of your Skylander(s)

Skylander Sidekicks

Skylander Sidekicks are AI characters that, once placed on the Portal, will follow the player around. Each Skylander Sidekick represents a normal Skylander.  There are 4 Skylander Sidekicks:
  • Trigger Snappy (Trigger Happy)
  • Whisper Elf (Stealth Elf)
  • Terrabite (Terrafin)
  • Gill Runt (Gill Grunt)
Collectibles

Food

Food is used to restore health when your character is low on health. Food can be found around the world, in breakable objects or by killing enemies. Different foods restore more health than others.

Gold

Gold, also referred to as treasure or loot is the currency in the game. Gold can be found by destroying breakable objects or killing enemies. Gold is used to purchase upgrades for your characters from Persephone, the fairy in the Ruins.

Victory Points

Victory Points are used to increase your experience level, doing so increases your maximum health. Each Skylander can reach the maximum of 10 levels.

Elemental Gates

Elemental Gates are gates that can only be unlocked by playing as a Skylander of the specific element for each gate. Once you have unlocked an elemental gate you can switch to any character, even of a different element, whilst in this new area. Elemental Gates lead to areas that will include a Hat and Treasure Chest.

Hats

Hats are wearable accessories that, when found, can be equipped to any Skylander. These hats will increase certain stats of the characters that they are equipped to.

Treasure Chests

Treasure Chests contain large amounts of gold, these chests can be found in the world and must be unlocked by either shaking the Wii remote (Wii) or the Right Analogue Stick (PS3/Xbox 360)

Legendary Treasure

Legendary Treasures are items that, once collected, give the current Skylander extra gold. Each legendary treasure is worth a different amount of gold.

Story Scrolls

Story Scrolls are small, sections that reveal information on the back story to the game. Each story scroll is read out by Eon once you first collect it but can be found again in the collections section in the pause menu.

Soul Gems

Soul Gems are items that are required to purchase the final upgrade of each Skylander. Each Skylander has their own soul gem and once unlocked you can view a preview for that character. These previews can be viewed again from the Skylanders section under collections in the pause menu.

Winged Sapphires

There are 10 Winged Sapphires located in the Ruins. These special treasures give you a 2% discount on all upgrades for your Skylanders per Winged Sapphire. Without them, a fully upgraded Skylander will set you back 14,200 in-game Gold. The total, 20%, discount will mean that each Skylander will only cost 11,360 Gold each to purchase all upgrades.

It’s kinda ironic that the very first skylander I wanted was warnado, but he’s going to be one of the last ones released.

  2. avatar Mr. L says:

It would be awesome if Skylanders Giants had an online multiplayer!

    • avatar Owen says:

I highly doubt it will though considering it’s just being built for the Wii again. But, I think if there was a game to be released after Giants it would have online multiplayer.

  3. avatar Gill Grunt says:

Have you seen the pictures of the air Skylander in Skylanders Giants?

  4. avatar Gill Grunt says:

I think that getting the remodeled Skylanders will be a waste of time. It’s just giving more money to Activision.

    • avatar Owen says:

Why? You have no reason to buy the new remodeled characters if you have the original. It’s just a way for people to be able to buy the characters when they discontinue the current models.

      • avatar Mr. L says:

I hate that the game is going to come with a remodeled version of a character I will already have!!!!!!!

        • avatar Owen says:

Not unless you buy all the characters. If anything, it’ll either be Cynder or Zook. Most likely Cynder considering that Tree Rex is a life Skylander. Just like with the first game, the first few characters we had name confirmation of where Spyro (obviously) Gill Grunt and Trigger Happy. Surprise surprise, they were the characters we got with the game. I think it’ll come with Tree Rex, Alchemist and Cynder.

          • avatar Mr.L says:

            Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P..S. I am listening to Non-stop nyan cat!

          • avatar Owen says:

It’s just speculation, we don’t have any confirmation on any of the characters that will come with the game yet.

          • avatar Mr.L says:

It will most likely come with at least one character from the original 32, though. So I’m still sad. :(

  5. avatar Bonnie says:

Does anyone know how to get the soul gem for legendary Chop Chop? My son wants to upgrade him, but it is saying the soul gem is required, (even after he tries to buy it) and I know we have gotten the one in shattered island because our other Chop Chop is fully upgraded. Anyone know why? We have even gone back to shattered island to see if it had reappeared, but it hadn’t.

    • avatar Owen says:

It’s the same soul gem. You have to buy the actual Bone Bramble upgrade before you buy the soul gem, that’s all I can suggest.

  6. avatar Mr. L says:

Tomorrow is the day where the skylanders not yet released could be released at any time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  7. avatar Gill Grunt says:

There is going to be two starter packs. One will have a portal and one won’t.

  8. avatar Gill Grunt says:

The one with the portal will be more money and I heard it’s coming with a new Skylander.

  9. avatar Tim says:

I have a problem that I can’t seem to find an answer for. I have all my figures do every hroic challenge, however some of my charactors heroic challenges aren’t staying in the game after i remove them from the portal. I have used them since first got them and can’t figure out why they dont show up as saved characters in my saved game. I am only missing the final seven from the fourth wave, yet my saved game only shows 21 skylanders..I am missing Ghost Roaster, Boomer, Gill Grunt etc. How do I fix this ?

    • avatar Owen says:

They have to be set as ownership on your console. To do this go into the Skylanders info menu and on the furthest tab to the right there is an ‘Ownership’ button. Click it and say yes.

  10. avatar Mr. L says:

    Is anyone else out there?

  11. avatar Gill Grunt says:

Does anyone have any of the Wave 4 Skylanders?

  12. avatar Gill Grunt says:

Cool. I just picked up Dragon’s Peak with Sunburn, but have not seen anything about Lightning Rod or Zook.

  13. avatar Mr. L says:

Dragon’s Peak and L-Trigger Happy are available @ Toys R Us now. Or at least thats what the website says.

  14. avatar Mr. L says:

When are you going to make more new videos?

  15. avatar fateorfear says:

hi there owen, what is the enemy goal for fallen forest on the ps3?
ive tried absolutely everything and cannot do it,
ps i work at TRU in the uk, we should have dragons peak in the next two weeks, then camo/ignitor/warnado triple in a months time and yes, unfortunately wham shell in september, two weeks before the release of giants

  16. avatar Mr. L says:

I got L-Trigger Happy at TRU! There where tons of them.

  17. avatar Gill Grunt says:

Has anyone scored any Wave 5 Skylanders? (Camo, Warnado, or Wham-Shell).

  18. avatar Dewman says:

i got xbox360 my portal wont recognise the skylanders anyone know why?
    and if there isa reset

    • avatar Owen says:

Its most likely broken, you can either get a new one sent by Activision or return it to where you got it from to get a new copy of the game – both options won’t cost you but I would presume it’d be quicker to return the game rather than wait for Activision to send you a new Portal. But, if you would rather Activision send you a new portal, you just need to go to Activision’s warranty page. A quick Google and you’ll find it.

  19. avatar Mr. L. says:

I just got lightning rod, cynder, and zook. I am about to try them out. Thank you eBay!!! :)

  20. avatar kk says:

Only need Camo, Warnado and Wham Shell to complete set.

  21. avatar Gill Grunt says:

Congrats guys. I just need Wham-Shell to complete my set.

  22. avatar kk says:

I just need wham shell as well, any ideas when this will be released – only seen it on e-bay for silly money. Although will be in states at weekend so may be able to get over there

  23. avatar sheila says:

Ok. so i’m in crawling catacombs and i just received the beret….only the gate snapped shut and i’m trapped inside. how do i get out??

    • avatar Owen says:

You can’t, you’d have to start the level again. But you’ll still have the Beret so you won’t have to do that again.

  24. avatar kk says:

Just been advised that Wham shell is on his way by Amazon only had it on order for a month…

  25. avatar kk says:

Now have all 32 skylanders as well as 4 Legendary ones. Only need Dark Spyro, but do not think he is much different to normal one unless on the 3DS.

    • avatar Owen says:

He’s just a recoloured version of Spyro on the console, but actually has different attacks on the 3DS version.

  26. avatar kk says:

Thanks Owen, that is what I heard was different, my son tells me he shoots through his tail on the 3DS so now wants the 3DS version as well as console, at least all characters are usable whatever the platform, although looks like the version2 skylanders with giants will have different/updated attacks/powers.

  27. avatar dawg says:

    Hey Owen,

One thing I have found is a MAJOR disparity between the good PvP Skylanders and the bad. I am working with a small group of people randomly pitting up skylanders against each other and recording W/L records. We make sure arenas are constantly changing, who controls who constantly changes, and switch from fair fight to regular. I was curious to see whether or not you would like to post the final tiers we come up with on this sight. It will seperate the Top 12 from the bottom 20. When the new ones get released this fall, we’ll work on a 12-16-12 format (I presume 12-12-12 at the start since it’s a consensus that only 4 of the brand new minis will be released in October).

It is meant to increase enjoyment and competition so you don’t have Slam Bam going up against Prism Break and acting like it is going to be a contest. I’ve seen a few lists, but some look more like dad’s characters rocking the socks off of 8 year old daughters characters (From everything I’ve seen, Cynder is top 5, but I’ve seen lists where she is not, so sometimes the players themselves are causes massive numbers incluences). I have lost with Gill Grunt twice EVER, but I he takes a LOT of skill, so rotating the players helps keep the numbers a little cleaner.

I should have a good test group by the end of the weekend so let me know if you want them!!

  28. avatar Meg says:

My weapons master is shut up and i dont know how to open him again, can anyone help plz? He was open for a while and I played a few places and it was fine. After it was turned off it erased what I had completed and and locked him back up. I replayed the levels to open him but still havent had any luck. Eon however, keeps telling me to talk to the portal master. Thank you.
